We are building our property in Emyvale on the Shire Lane, it’s a beautiful spot and you can own a peice of it too!
Visit shirelane.ca for more details on the area and lots available.
Our house is a passive solar strawbale structure using as much local materials as possible. The straw is from a farm located a few kms away on the Kingston Road, the floor beams are from a sawmill on PEI and the sand and clay for the stucco are from PEI as well.
Where we used conventional building materials we tried to use the more environmentally friendly or non toxic alternatives. We’ve used recycled newspaper cellulose insulation for the attic, natural danish oil finish for the wood ceiling and trim, Purebond FSC Formaldyhide free plywood for the cabinetry, used refurbished clawfoot tub for the bathroom, recycled glazing units for some of the fixed windows and a metal roof (no petroleum products and 100% recyclable)
The progress on the house can be followed on the blog, and other entries filtered out viewing the ‘house’ category.
We have many other visions for the future and for our community, from a community food co-op to nature trails. One project at a time though!
