Adventures

Welcome to my adventure page! I am going to list some goals and destinations, activities and sports that I want to try or become proficient in and update them as the are completed (or abandoned…)

  1. Fundy Wilderness Camping

Fundy MapFundy Park has some great wilderness camping (from all accounts I’ve heard) and seeing as Dan lives in Moncton now this would be an ideal summer excursion for a group of us. Also, the Greensanke Trail is right next door in Alma, NB. Laine and I did the Greensnake last year, or rather part of it as we weren’t sure of the route or the extent and we only did about 1/2 of it and missed the best part of the single-track action. I definately want to get over and do it for real some time.

Fundy Park of course is one of NB’s two National Parks and I also contains miles and miles of biking and hiking trails, some very steep and challenging too. With our new found taste for trail running as well Fundy may well be ideal for us. Many people I talk to who frequent the park go back year after year and are quite devoted to the park.

  2. Bike Magdalen Islands

MaggiesMagdalen Islands Tourism I am hoping to do this this summer, if we aren’t too busy with the wedding plans and what-not. Depending on the route taken, this could be anywheres from a 150km to a 300km trip (assuming getting a drive to the ferry in Souris and being picked up). Ferry rates will be $37.25 each in the off season, $52.25 each in the high season. Camping rates $19 a day. According to the Tourism site: ” The Îles de la Madeleine now have official off-road cycling paths. They run along the cliffs in Cap-aux-Meules, l’Étang-du-Nord and Fatima.”

  3. Cape Enrage Rock Climbing

Cape Enrage AdventuresCape Enrage has 2 hour climbing packages for $50 which include all equipment and instruction! When my hand heals fully this just may be in the stars this summer combined with a wilderness camping trip to Fundy Park.

  4. Kouchibouguac Park MTB and camping

Kouchibouguac MapKouchibouguac Park has a section of single track known as the Major Kollack Creek trail that was actually rebuilt last year by park officials with training and assistance of IMBA (International Mountain Biking Association) and is supposed to be fantastic. The camping looks to be good with lots of wilderness camping and lots of walking and biking trails and interpretive installations. We did the sacred cedar and peat bog trails this fall at the end of our honeymoon and fell in love with the Park.

  5. WWOOF in Iceland.

I just recently discovered the world of WWOOFing, World-Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms, and am excited about the possibility of travelling somewhere in the world and working for my room and board while learning about another culture first hand. Laine and I are leaning towards Iceland, and specifically a farm on the eastern coast that concentrates on vegetables and reforestation! Their description reads:

“Organic farm (350 ha) since 1979 located in east Iceland, the most beautiful part. Main products are potatoes, vegetables, grains, massage oils and vegetarian burgers.. We have since 1984 planted 1 million trees for shelterbelts and forest. Work includes tree planting, weeding, hoeing, vegetable planting and harvesting, packing, prepare for markets, cleaning, kitchen help. Accom for 2 in my home and two in a small apartment. Vegetarian meals. Children by arrangement. NSI.”
